3077-DA-43-1/01 This Planet Has Crazy Sunrises:
Landing on a new planet always gets my blood flowing, but this one seems almost too good to be true. Maybe I should have the scanners checked again…
Sunrises and sunsets that don’t burn you where you stand? That you actually get to look at? Natural, breathable air?! After months of living in a flying tin can, this is more than any man or woman could wish for.
They call me Lazy Laser, they do. On account that I solve most of my problems with gun upgrades, and damn do I hate shooting twice at the same target…
I agreed to be part of a scouting expedition, charged with finding a new world where we could grow old. They say we fucked the last one beyond repair - I take their word for it - it sure sounds like something we’d do…
Everyone thinks I’m in it for the credits - I’ll admit; my cyborg horse could use some maintenance. But really, I just wanna feel the sun on my skin again, and breathe non-recycled fucking air…So damn these scanners to hell! I choose to believe them!
Open the hatch!

3077-DA-43-2/02 Ride On Cyborg Horse:
I have to give it to them, the air feels heavy around here. But at least it doesn’t have that stench we’re so used to.
All in all, this place already feels more like home than our damned spaceship. Mostly deserts and rocks, as far as our augmented vision goggles can see, but it looks like there may be tall buildings way, way over yonder.
Clear sky, vast open spaces - time for a ride. I stare into my trusty steed glowing eye as I activate it from its cyborg slumber - happy to see me, girl?
As I get on, rider mode changes my view of this world to 3D lines and grids. The familiar sound of energy building up inside my horse’s cores may just be my favorite thing in the world. One moment, I’m here.
The next, I’m gone.

3077-DA-44-1/ 03 Exploring This Ruined City:
I am speechless. Good thing I made it there before the rest of the expedition and their fancy rovers, I get some time to wrap my head around this.
This city is huge! And very dead - my neural implant reckons no living things, except for us, and I intend to keep it that way.
The desert is slowly reclaiming this place, burying entire stories in the sand. From the looks of it, this once used to be a great civilization. I wonder if these guys also had expeditions to look for new worlds.
Looks like we can still enter some buildings and go to the lower floors beneath the sand. If the scientists would move their slow asses and get here, maybe we could piece together what happened to this place.

A Tale From A Dead World

3077-AF-03-1/04 A Tale From A Dead World:
I’m getting a little claustrophobic, and that’s coming from a guy who spent the last few months in a floating space container. We have been exploring for days – making our way inside vast underground networks of covered passages that connect the buried skyscrapers together.
I don’t know who these people were, but they sure knew how to build something that lasts. Sure, some rooms and halls seem to have been blasted to pieces and are flooded with sand, but most parts are accessible with a little willpower and elbow grease. I can almost imagine what this place used to be like!
Burn marks everywhere, half-disintegrated skeletons, and torn-off mech parts: sure looks like a war to me. The weirdest thing is that there’s only remains of one side, like their attacker vanished. Maybe they were fighting each other?
One of the scientist can’t shut up about how a city this size would have drained the planet’s theoretical potential energy in 50 years or some crap like that - maybe causing folks to turn on each other. That guy, what a fucking hippy!
On the upside, I did find a dead woman that looked like she put on one hell of a fight, standing alone against many. Her guns are all damaged and burned. In her pocket, I found a small translucent orb that looks pretty damn cool. Maybe that thing is worth something somewhere.
Anyway, we’re exhausted, and we’ve gathered most of what we can use. Time to climb back up and get some fresh air. Wish it were that easy in space.

Gunspinning By The Fire

3077-AF-03-2/05 Gunspinning By The Fire :
Well, it was almost sunset when we finally emerged from that underground labyrinth. We set up camp at the outskirt of the city and found some large dried up wooden roots that one of the scientist built fires with. Pretty neat.
We got drunk on something close enough to booze we found underground. It was good to finally unwind and have a few laughs. I think I’m starting to like these people, even that fucking hippy.
With most folks passed out or asleep, I drew my revolvers and started gunspinning by the fire. These hybrid little guys pack a punch – the precision of laser and the impact of good ol’ fucking metal.
Their weight in my hands, the momentum of their spinning motion, and the subtle breeze of fresh air, all of it feels really nice. Good thing I came to this planet.

3077-AF-03-3/06 Sunset Raiders :
Fuck. One of the guys had said he heard a distant roar earlier, and we all said he drank too much. But now we all hear it, you’d have to be fucking deaf not to hear it - and it’s getting louder.
Sounds like old gas powered vehicles, like we used to see in those goddam “old times were good times” late-night propaganda neural link programs.
Guess they saw the fire? How did we not pick them up with our scanners? I should have checked those fucking scanners.
I confess, I hoped they would be friendly right until the moment I saw the first guy jumping above the hills on a motocross donned with human skulls, holding a machine gun above his head.
At first I cursed that we let our guard down, and then I saw how many followed. There’s no way we could have been ready for that. At least I’ll fucking die without regrets.
To whomever salvages my neural implant and gets this journal: fuck you asshole.

3077-AF-04-1/08 Alone:
I fled. I had to. We tried to put on a fight, but there were just too many, circling around us on motorbikes and crazy looking cars - shooting at us from all sides.
My crew. They’re all dead.
Once again, I ride alone. Save for visions of my dead mates haunting my head. And you, girl, looks like you saved my ass once more. I promise I’ll get you that maintenance! Just you and me now, riding in the sand and the mist.
Gotta keep riding.
Keep riding.
Just ride on.
Just keep - they did not even try to speak to us - riding.
Just - could have been survivors from that city - ride on.
Just keep - would leave them with innate distrust of people - riding.
Just - we clearly were not a threat to them - ride on.
Just - I couldn’t save them - keep riding.
Just - can’t focus on my - keep riding - neural implant - ride on.
Ride on - Where the hell am I? – space cowboy.

Wandering The Wasteland

3077-AF-11-1/09 Wandering The Wasteland:
These fancy augmented vision goggles are keeping my eyes from getting sandblasted, but that’s about it. Visibility is close to zero and I’m famished. I’ve been wandering this wasteland for days, amidst the occasional remnant of space ship or broken building.
There’s weird snakes hissing to keep me company but I don’t even know if they’re real. Strange sounds resonate around me, pulling me left, then right, then left.
Is this how I die?
I feel so tired. Here, instead of there, what’s the difference?
Or am I already dead?
Once again, I see lights in the distance, mocking me.
And…warmth on my chest!? I reach to feel my heart through my chest pocket, nearly burning my fingers on a round object I picked up from the dead city. The orb is glowing. The lights ahead intensify. They look like beautiful lasers coloring the sky.
A metal door, framed by laser walls. A large lever, and a round keyhole.
That’s clear enough! I wasn’t born fucking yesterday - and I might not die today.

1991-06-04-1/10 Laser Temple POWERUP :
I don’t know how long it’s been since I got here. Reality changed its course, and my vision is blurred and pixelized. What is this place? Perspective means nothing here, things appear out of nowhere! Who set up these laser themed puzzles all over the place? How many hours have I been playing, I mean, progressing through this temple? Why is my mom gesturing at me?
I finally make it to the temple boss, and manage to defeat him. A chest appears out of thin air. Hello Laser Temple POWERUP!
Who am I? I feel like I am hundreds of heroes, like I have lived hundreds of lives, made and lost hundreds of friends, and saved the worlds so many times! Like things matter, like we all matter.
But why is my mom gesturing at me?
Oh, dinner is ready. Thanks mom. I love you. One day I’ll be a space cowboy and I’ll have my own cyborg horse and I’ll protect you from harm.

3077-AF-14-1/11 Night Rider:
I finally emerged from the Laser temple with my belly inexplicably full. Man did things get real in there!
My guns are glowing with newfound power, and my mind is clearer than ever before. How did I ever think that I was lost?
I was making my way through the only path, and now I’m coming for you. I know where to find you, I’ve always known.
I am the Night Rider. Your only protection is the distance between you and I...and it's decreasing every second.

3077-AF-15-1/12 Vengeance With A Smile:
I made it to the raiders camp and dismounted - You stay safe, girl, I’ll do this last bit on foot.
As I engage the buildup of energy in my guns, I know this’ll be over in less than five minutes.
They call me Lazy Laser. One target, one shot. Anything else would be too much work.
I’m just making my way through the only path, smiling.
And as I danced my deadly dance of death, they fell, one shot at a time.

3077-AF-15-2/13 Swallowed By The Sunset:
Contemplating my grim work, I know this place can no longer become my home.
There is nothing keeping me here, I will never be complete here.
I mount my trusty cyborg horse, and become one with the sunset for a moment.
Let’s try to be optimistic: I did feel the sun on my skin. I did breathe open air.
One moment, I’m here.
The next, I’m gone.
